Car Care Tips & Reminders from Treadworks® and J/P Tire

Because Long-Lasting Performance Doesn't Happen Overnight; It Takes Repetition

Any vehicle has the potential to last 200k or much longer, depending on their type (gas or diesel) and their level of care. The difference that routine upkeep makes can seem profound, and no one knows it like the technicians and mechanics who work on vehicles every day at service centers like Treadworks® and J/P Tire, serving Farmington, NM; Kirtland, NM; Durango, CO; and surrounding areas.

We love seeing well-travelled vehicles in excellent condition, and their owners enjoy the reliability (and often the savings of no longer having a car payment) that comes with their vehicle. We want more of our customers to enjoy these benefits, too, so we are encouraging every drive to follow the recommended maintenance intervals outlined located in the owner’s manual. We also strongly advise a prompt response when there is a concern with the vehicle's performance.

Check out the tips on this page for ways to keep your vehicle at its best, and remember to reach out to Treadworks® and J/P Tire when you need an auto repair shop or routine maintenance for tires, brakes, your car battery, and more.

Remember to Follow These Car Care Tips:

  • Inspect your tires on a routine basis. Check the pressure levels, overall condition of the tires, and tread. When tires are properly inflated and have decent tread remaining, they are less susceptible to punctures and flats. Similarly, catching irregularities with tread wear early provides an opportunity to make corrections, saving you money in the long run. For example, if you catch an issue that indicates misalignment, having it corrected will extend the life of your tires and improve vehicle handling.
  • Car batteries typically last between 3-5 years. Make sure to replace your battery in a timely manner, especially if you begin to notice signs that it's on its way out. A battery test can provide valuable information about your battery's condition if you aren't sure if you need a new one just yet. For upkeep, give your battery a check routinely. Battery connections should be kept tight, clean, and free of corrosion. Car batteries rarely provide warnings before failing, so be sure to seek a car battery replacement& when necessary.
  • Brake fluid can attract moisture, which will corrode components. Brake fluid should be replaced once a year to keep calipers, hoses, and other components in top operating condition.
  • Wheel alignments are recommended whenever you install new tires and when you experience signs of misalignment. An alignment check is a good idea annually. This is because misalignment can happen in small increments over time, so you may not notice your vehicle needs an alignment until much later. Wheel alignments improve straight-line tracking and reduce tire wear. If your vehicle has a tendency to pull to one side, you notice irregular tread wear, or the steering wheel is off-center, you may need a wheel alignment.
  • Avoid stop-and-go driving. This wastes fuel and adds unnecessary wear and premature age to crucial components.

By following these tips and the service intervals listed inside your owner’s manual, you can guard against major repairs and unexpected failures. Proper vehicle maintenance can save you money in the long run, and improve your safety and the safety of your passengers, while neglecting suggested services at regular intervals will void vehicle and parts warranties.
